Finding a Gateway Backup File's Version

Introduction

Gateway Backups are all inclusive backups, including all projects, Gateway settings, authentication profiles, Tags, database connections, OPC and device connections, alarm pipelines, scripts, sequential function charts, reports, and Image Management Library. When restoring Gateway Backups, it is important to ensure that the versions of Ignition are the same between the installation of Ignition and the backup, otherwise the restoration will not proceed.

Process

1. Using a file-archiver software, such as 7zip, open your .gwbk file of choice.
2. Included inside the .gwbk file will be a file titled backupinfo.xml. This should include some basic information, along with the Gateway version of the backup.
   
   a. The version number can be found near the top of the file, after <version>. In this example, the version is 8.1.40.
